A former spa town, Builth Wells is livelier than its neighbors and offers a good base for exploring the area. The town is packed during the annual Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, the country’s premier agriculture and livestock festival held in July. The four-day event showcases everything from rural life to Ukranian Cossack dancing. The community’s cultural hub is the Wyeside Arts Centre on the east side of town, which is open for cinema and cultural events. A favorite local pub and hotel is the Greyhound Hotel, and for a contemporary option check out the Lion Hotel.
