Ilfracombe is a coastal town that has been attraction tourists since before Queen Victoria was on the throne, and is still a favorite destination for Brits on holiday. There are small beaches beyond the grassy headland of Hillsborough, but the best sand is to be found 5 miles west at Woolacombe. The little cove of Lee Bay is also worth checking out. Ilfracombe offers plenty of places to stay. The Beechwood Hotel is a pretty detached house with lovely gardens and some rooms overlooking the seashore. The Elmfield Hotel offers more upscale accommodations on an acre of private grounds featuring an indoor heated swimming pool.
