Alton Towers is a very popular theme park in Staffordshire. And when I say popular, I mean popular - over 2.7million people visited the park in 2011, making it the UK's most popular theme park, and Europe's 9th most popular. That doesn't include the 2,000 or more staff members!
The grounds hold a semi-ruined Gothic revival house - just one of the many attractions that pulls so many people towards this theme park, not to mention it's impressive and terrifying roller coasters and rides. It's most popular and famous rides include Nemesis (opened in 1994), Oblivion (the worlds first vertical drop coaster, 1998), Air (Europe's only horizontal flying roller coaster, 2002) and Th13teen ( a 5 meter vertical drop into total darkness, 2010). Nemesis boasts a speed of 81km per hour, and a force of 4gs, with Th13teen being the most expensive ride, costing £15million to build! The massive grounds also hold 2 hotels, a water park, a spa and a golf and conference center.
