Edinburgh Dungeon is Scotland's very own version of the impressive, grisly, interesting, educational and family friendly London and York Dungeons, and is infact owned a run by the same company. Edinburgh Dungeons can be found on the site of Edinburgh's famous castle, and promises to be 'The ultimate thrill-filled journey through Scotland's murky past', as it takes you on a grim, blood-curdling journey through the last thousand years of Scotlands dark and disturbing history.
As you venture deeper into the dungeons, you'll learn all about Scotlands most infamous historical characters, such as the blood-thirsty and murderous twosome known as Burke and Hare (made famous by Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis in the 2010 movie), the local 15th-16th century cannibal Sawney Bean, and the gruseome details of their crimes and their punishments!
The tour of the Edinburgh Dungeon lasts around 1hr 20mins, and features 2 rides - a brilliant underground boat ride and the thrilling 'Extremis Drop Ride', not to mention 11 different live shows performed by actors in period costumes, who show how the ancient dungeon and its wardens operated on a day to day basis, and who really bring history to life! There are also exhibits on the brutal torture chamber and the grueling evil of the black plauge.
The Edinburgh Dungeon is open from 10am-5pm daily, and entry is £16.20 for adults, £12 for children under 15.
