The hub of the Highlands is one of the fastest growing cities in Scotland. People from around the area flock to the town for its excellent shopping opportunities. You can get acquainted with the town by taking a leisurely stroll along its river. Although attractions in the city are limited, there are a few gems here like Macbeth’s castle and the legendary Jacobite battlefield of Culloden. The Inverness Castle dominates the town. It was built in the mid 19th century and currently serves as the Sherriff’s Court. Although you can’t go inside, you can take a walk along the River Ness, which has nice walking bridges and attractive picnic spots on the Ness Islands. St. Andrew’s Cathedral is another nice sight dating from 1869. Trips to the Highlands and Orkneys are popular from Inverness and can be booked at the tourist office here. You can also take the Inverness Dolphin Cruise from here to see dolphins, seals, and other sea life.
