Newtonmore and its sister village Kingussie are two hamlets with one of Scotland’s best regional museums sandwiched between. The Highland Folk Museum is divided into a branch for each village. Kingussie Museum was Britain’s first open air museum with a collection of relics based on the collection of anthropologist Dr. Isabel Grant. The real highlights, however, are to be found in Newtonmore Museum, a huge outdoor complex that lets you travel between the 1700s and 1930s. Northwest of Kingussie are the Monadhliath Mountains which are a great destination for walkers and also attract hikers but not as much as the nearby Cairngorms.
