Elgin is one of Scotland’s sunniest towns and a fairly quiet place. The magnificent Elgin Cathedral is beautiful to visit in the afternoon sun. It was built in the late 13th century, burned down in 1390, and rebuilt during the Reformation. The two formidable towers are still intact, and the octagon shaped chapter house has also stood the test of time. There are several cute bed and breakfasts in Elgin, particularly Belleville. It is located in a pretty sandstone house with easy access to the cathedral. Another great place to stay is the Old Church of Urquhart, which is actually a converted church. One of the best places to eat is Coriatiki, which offers amazing Greek food at excellent prices.
