The trip to Campbeltown contrasts rolling green farmland with surf-pounded beaches. The weather can change by the minute. The town had its prime in the late 19th century, but it is impressively situated around a small loch surrounded by hills. There were once dozens of whisky distilleries here, but now there are just three. You can visit Springbank, a small scale, personal operation that does its own malting and bottling. Famous former residents of the town include Paul and Linda McCartney, and there is a small memorial garden to Linda here.
