Lyndhurst is a good base from which to explore the national park. This village is one of the larger settlements in the area and has an excellent tourist office, food facilities, and several cozy pubs and restaurants. The tourist office sells a wide variety of information on the New Forest, including cycling maps, walking trails, and camping guides. In the same building is the New Forest Museum which explores the unique ecology and social history of the region. Just across the street is the library which offers free internet access. One of the favorite places to stay is Forest Cottage, a cozy 300-year-old cottage just two minutes from the town center.
